like a stab in the eye...
This infill development is proposed for two residential lots, about two blocks from my house. Here's my opinion piece for the CBC about the issue.
PS: I guess I posted too soon about our trying week--if I'd just waited til this was published, I would have had something more positive to say! (I didn't know then that it would be published. Surprises make life interesting, right?)

Well written. Well done.
Thanks, Alison! I really struggle with this issue, because I do think infill is a valuable tool for cities...but I also think a house is usually a person's biggest lifetime purchase. It is unfair to people who make this huge purchase to then find that there are no rules in place to keep the neighborhood from being wholly deconstructed right around them....it is a hard balance between the two: infill and keeping a neighborhood's character intact. Also, I did not say this in the article, but man, it is hard to live through these kinds of construction. It's loud and dirty and lasts years and sometimes results in foundation damage to others, etc. (We've had plenty of building around us in this house. I sadly know this from experience.)
